WORKSHOPS
CHESHIRE
SCHOOL OF ARTS
A
week of art and design workshop activities at the Cheshire School of Art summer
school provided an ideal opportunity to construct kites with sixteen enthusiastic
teenagers. A study walk in sun dappled woodland gave the students plenty of
time to explore the natural environment, and to create free-standing and airborne
structures from found materials. Sketches were made and ideas developed in
the studio. Kite design and construction techniques were demonstrated and paper,
Tyvek, paints, hardwood dowel and bamboo were provided. Small easily made kites
were constructed first. Later in the session participants were encouraged to
experiment with different designs.
