LIGHT TRACES

This body of work seeks to record the passage of time within the realm of static two dimensional space.
Taking a digital camera for a 'walk' in an urban environment at night. During the long exposure, light traces are recorded on the camera sensor. Oscillations of electrical currents, not visible to the eye, create multiple lines of lights, as I walk, hop, skip, dance or run past my subjects.
The images are digitally manipulated using Photoshop, cropped and sometimes layered on top of each other. The final compositions are an abstracted commentary on my original subject. Waves of light traces possess an energy like a detailed drawing or map, creating a new visual dynamic.
Complementary colours are used to heighten visual impact.
Selected compositions are dye sublimation printed onto Icarex polyester
ripstop and constructed into kites, using carbon fibre spars.
When these kites are flown, the naturall daylight illuminates the image.
The kite moves in response to the forces of the wind - the final stage in the process.
