WINDSCAPE & PACIFIC RIM KITE FESTIVALS, VANCOUVER, SASKATCHEWAN & THE ROCKIES, CANADA
LINKS
Our adventure in Canada in 2014 began in Vancouver. We were guest kite fliers at the Pacific Rim Festival. A small family friendly event taking place by the picturesque waterfront in Vancouver. Grouse mountain made a great background to the colourful banners and kites.

After the weekend festival we travelled to Victoria, travelling by ferry through the beautiful gulf islands, to visit the excellent ethnographic collection in the Royal British Columbia Museum..

Our next flight was to Regina in Saskatchewan, then by road to Swift Current, where we were guests at the Windscape Kite and Music Festival. For 3 days colourful kites, banners and inflatables filled the endless sky, stretching over the surrounding plains to the distant horizon.

After Windscape our journey became a long road trip. First from Regina to Saskatoon, to see St Vincent perform in the riverside stadium at the Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Fesitval.

Our road trip continued to Elk Island National park and Edmonton to our first stop in the Rockies at Jasper. No visit there would be complete without seeing Lake Maligne and the iconic Spirit Island. The scenery didn't disappoint.

We travelled in awe along the Icefields Parkway, past stunning snow capped mountains and the Athabasca river and glacier. Lake Louise and Lake Moraine were excellent places to hike, providing plenty of opportunities to catch sight of black and grizzly bears, moose and elk.

For the last part of our road trip we headed back to Regina, via Calgary, Medicine Hat and Moose Jaw.

A fantastic and memorable experience. 3 weeks in Canada, kite flying, horse riding, hiking, canoeing and a Harley Davidson.
