HARLOW CARR GARDENS
The
Royal Horticultural Society 'Harness the wind' event took place in the beautiful
Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate. During a very busy day of kite making workshops
over 200 small kites were made.
Construction materials included bamboo, craft papers, and coloured polythene.
I used graphic images relating to garden themes and popular culture as well
as abstract designs. The tails were constructed using craft and tissue papers,
created using fold and cut techniques to repeat the pattern.
Children as young as five worked with kites which had been partially preconstructed
before the event. Accompanying adults and older children helped to make kites
and developed designs of their own.
Despite a few showers of rain during the day, this popular event was regarded
as a great success.
